Penn State Gets Another WPIAL Recruiting Win

First-year Penn State coach Matt Campbell is understanding the assignment when it comes to recruiting the WPIAL.

Earlier this month, Penn State got commitments from a pair of Pittsburgh Central Catholic products in three-star CB Zachary Gleason and three-star IOL Jon Sassic, both from the Class of 2027.

Now, Penn State has added another 2027 OL from Western PA, this one Upper St. Clair’s Ryan Robbins. Robbins, a 6-foot-7, 280-pounder, picked Penn State over schools such as Indiana, Ohio State, Pitt and Virginia Tech. He also had offers from places like Boston College, Georgia Tech, NC State, Nebraska and Wake Forest.

A big reason Robbins chose Penn State was the relationship he built with new OL coach Ryan Clanton.

“He was just very enthusiastic and honest about what he thought about me as a player, and we just had a great conversation,” Robbins told Blue-White Illustrated. “I was ecstatic, an offer to go to a school like Penn State and play for a team like they are. The staff they brought over and the facilities they have are unbelievable.”

Robbins received his Penn State offer Feb. 12.

Football also isn’t the only sport he’s good at.

Robbins is one of the areas best basketball players, having averaged more than 15 points and 11 rebounds this past season and helped St. Clair to a third straight WPIAL championship, which led to him being named Trib HSSN Boys Basketball Player of the Year.

Penn State now has 12 players committed to its 2027 recruiting class, which is ranked No. 9 via 247Sports.
