Penn State football continued its push into New Jersey on Friday, landing a commitment from 2027 three-star tight end Sean Currie.
Currie, a Lawrenceville School standout from Lawrenceville, New Jersey, announced his decision on the Rivals YouTube channel, choosing Penn State over Ohio State, Texas A&M, Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt. The 6-foot-6, 230-pound tight end gives Matt Campbell and offensive coordinator Taylor Mouser another intriguing developmental piece in a class that continues to grow.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Currie is ranked as the No. 560 player nationally, the No. 32 tight end and the No. 15 player in New Jersey. 247Sports has him graded even higher as the No. 20 tight end and No. 10 player in the state.Â
Currie is relatively new to football after previously being a major lacrosse prospect. He had been committed to Virginia for both sports before decommitting in March, and his athletic background is part of what makes his upside appealing. As a junior, Currie caught 34 passes for 474 yards and eight touchdowns.Â
His commitment also continues Campbell’s emphasis on the Garden State. Currie becomes the fifth New Jersey prospect in Penn State’s 2027 class and the second tight end, joining four-star Cooper Terwilliger.
For Penn State, the fit is clear. Currie was drawn to Mouser’s history of tight end usage at Iowa State and the chance to play in an offense where the tight ends coach is also the offensive coordinator. With his frame, multi-sport athleticism and room to add weight, Currie gives Penn State another long-term TEU candidate.
