CLEVELAND, Ohio — Nebraska’s Antrell Taylor found motivation for his NCAA Championships run in an unlikely place: Penn State’s fan base.
Taylor, wrestling at 157 pounds, came into the postseason with something to prove after falling to Penn State’s PJ Duke in the 2025-26 Big Ten Championships. In that bout, Duke, the No. 2 seed, handed Taylor, the top seed, a 12-4 major decision loss.
According to Taylor, the aftermath of that defeat stayed with him.
Following his semifinal victory over West Virginia’s Ty Watters at the 2026 NCAA Wrestling Championships, Taylor revealed that the memory of Penn State fans letting him hear it became a driving force in his push to the national finals.
When asked where he found the motivation to recover from the setback, Taylor did not hesitate.
“Yeah, those Penn State fans, everybody knows they’re real heckling crowds,” Taylor said. “So I replayed them heckling me while I was walking out that tunnel every time I stepped out on a mat ever since then. And so that really pushed me to get to this final.”
Taylor even offered a tongue-in-cheek thank you to the fans who helped fuel his run.
“I say thank you to all the Penn State fans,” he said. “They pushed me to this spot.”
What began as a painful conference championship loss turned into a source of motivation for Taylor, who has wrestled with purpose ever since. Now, after channeling that energy into a strong NCAA tournament performance, the Nebraska standout is headed to the national final with a chance to finish the job.
