Penn State Basketball: Ohio State Overwhelms The Nittany Lions

Tonight on Senior Night and the last home game of the regular season, the Penn State men’s basketball team welcomed Ohio State to Happy Valley.

Both teams were coming off big victories from their last game. The Nittany Lions defeated Iowa and the Buckeyes knocked off No. 8 Purdue.

To start the game, OSU came out hot with a 7-0 lead, but then Penn State’s, Ivan Juric, scored on a drive to the hoop and drilled a three to make the score 7-5 (16:54).

At the first media timeout (15:32) the score was OSU 7 PSU 6.

Penn State, playing without the services of injured Kayden Mingo, was playing aggressive and getting good looks at the rim.

With (11:30) left in the first half, it was Ohio State over PSU 12-9.

Christoph Tilly for the visitors had four points and PSU’s, Juric, was leading all scorers with seven points.

The Buckeyes’ and their leading scorer, Bruce Thornton, started to heat up and Thornton hit his second triple of the game to make the score 15-9 (11:00).

OSU went on a 13-0 run and stretched their lead to 23-9 with (7:13) left before halftime.

The Nittany Lions couldn’t get anything to drop and were shooting 13% from the field. The Buckeyes were shooting 65% from the field.

Ohio State was overwhelming Penn State both offensively and defensively and at the (3:43) mark it was the Buckeyes 33 Nittany Lions 11.

John Mobley, Jr. had 12 points for OSU and teammate, Thornton, had 10 points.

Halftime: Buckeyes 45 Nittany Lions 21

Juric and Melih Tunca were leading the Blue & White with seven points apiece.

To start the second half, Penn State drained back-to-back threes compliments of Freddie Dilione V. and Dominick Stewart, but the Buckeyes held steady.

At the first media timeout of the second half (15:11) it was Ohio State not letting up and beating Penn State 60-31. Mobley had 17 points in the game for the Buckeyes and was shooting 5-of-6 from three-point range.

The Buckeyes as a team were shooting an incredible 71% (12-17) from downtown.

With (10:58) left in the game it was Ohio State over Penn State 70-38.

The Buckeyes were shooting 67% from the floor and outrebounding the Nittany Lions 30-13.

With (6:50) left in regulation, Ohio State was well on their way to victory by a score of 77-45.

Mobley had 28 points for the Buckeyes and was shooting 8-of-9 from three-point range and with (3:00) to play it was the Buckeyes in full control, 87-55.

Final Score:  OSU 94 PSU 62
