Florida is expected to hire Penn State offensive line coach Phil Trautwein, bringing a Gator alumnus back to Gainesville to lead the unit he once anchored as a player.
Trautwein, a two-time national champion and former team captain at Florida, has built a strong coaching résumé highlighted by consistent player development and NFL-caliber talent. Over the last eight seasons, he has coached 39 all-conference selections, including two standout years at Boston College and the last six at Penn State.
At Penn State, Trautwein helped elevate the program’s offensive line play to one of the most productive stretches in school history.
Since 2020, seven Nittany Lions offensive linemen have been drafted that placed Penn State among the best nationally during that period.
He has coached three first-round picks, and current Penn State guard Vega Ioane is projected as another potential first-rounder in 2026.
Trautwein’s return to Florida comes as Penn State transitions under new head coach Matt Campbell, who has brought in Ryan Clanton from Iowa State to serve as the Nittany Lions’ new offensive line coach. Clanton held the same role for the Cyclones beginning in 2023 and was widely regarded for his player development and system versatility.
Penn State will close its season in the Pinstripe Bowl on December 27, facing Clemson at noon Eastern, while Florida moves forward with a familiar face guiding its offensive front.
