There has been a change in the Penn State wrestling schedule.
The team’s dual meet at Maryland, which was scheduled for Sunday afternoon, will now take place early Saturday evening.
This changed has happened because of the weather.
A snow and ice storm is scheduled to transpire across the country over the weekend.
Additionally, the dual meet will no longer be broadcast on the Big Ten Network, but rather BTN+. The biggest challenge for Penn State wrestling will be logistics. Penn State has to wrestle a dual meet Friday night at 7, when No. 25 Indiana comes to Rec Hall.
It’s yet to be determined whether Penn State will leave for Maryland Friday night after the Indiana bout, or leave Saturday morning. Greg Pickel of Blue-White Illustrated reported that the latter is more likely.
Regardless of the weather, Penn State will almost certainly win its 81st and 82nd matches over the weekend, extending its NCAA record.
If Penn State wanted to give all 10 of its starters a rest for the Maryland meet, it would probably still win handily, because that’s how deep this team is.
But just because the result seems to be a formality doesn’t mean the schedule change won’t be an inconvenience for Penn State.
The good news is, it’s the last time this season the team will have to compete in two duals meets in one weekend.
“I mean the double dual is a double weigh-in,” Penn State coach Cael Sanderson told reporters this past Tuesday. “You get a pound now that second dual enough to—I mean the guys love that obviously but I’m not a big deal. But yeah, we’ll just continue to improve our conditioning. I mean we have eight or nine weeks until the nationals, I believe. So well, you know, we got a lot of time to get better and technique and then take our shape up a notch or two.”
