Penn State Football has their new offensive coordinator. Taylor Mouser, who occupied the same position at Iowa State under head coach Matt Campbell, will take on play-calling duties. The Nittany Lions also brought offensive line coach Ryan Clanton and defensive backs coach Deon Broomfield, formerly of Iowa State, into the fold. Each of the three new employees are listed on the university’s staff directory.
The Cyclones’ offense averaged 27.42 points per game under Mouser’s guidance in 2025, picking up 2,094 rushing yards and 2,657 passing yards on 210-of-347 passing. Their 396.1 yards per game ranked No. 61 in FBS; their rushing output and sacks allowed finished at No. 51 and tied for No. 64, respectively, an indicator of Clanton’s blocking schemes.
Continuity with the 2025 Cyclones’ coaching staff could help Penn State bring Iowa State’s current players and recruits into the fold. For instance, three-star signee Bryson Williams said when he initially committed to the Cyclones that he did so because of Broomfield’s skill in developing defensive backs. Williams obtained his release from the National Letter of Intent he signed with the Cyclones on Dec. 10.
