Penn State has added another defensive back to its Class of 2026, securing a commitment from three-star Lincoln, NE, native Tyrell Chatman.
Listed at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, Chatman was a versatile standout at North Star High School. He played both quarterback and wide receiver on offense, totaling 2,047 yards and 26 touchdowns over the past two seasons.
Defensively, Chatman projects as a cornerback at the next level after finishing his prep career with 88 tackles, 21 pass breakups, and four interceptions.
Chatman originally committed to Northern Illinois in December 2024 but reopened his recruitment after earning an offer from Iowa State during a junior day visit in early February. He returned for an unofficial visit in April to watch spring practice and flipped his commitment to the Cyclones shortly thereafter.
With Campbell being named Penn State’s 17th head coach on December 8, Chatman was committed to the culture and program that Campbell led.
An accomplished track athlete, Chatman earned a silver medal in the 400 meters and a bronze medal in the 200 last spring. He owns personal bests of 48.19 seconds in the 400 and 21.61 in the 200, along with a 10.78-second 100-meter dash. Kansas State and Wyoming also offered.
According to Rivals Industry Rankings, Chatman is ranked No. 697 nationally and No. 3 in Nebraska, earning an 88 overall three-star rating from Rivals.
Chatman joins fellow three-star defensive back Bryson Williams and four-star signees Jackson Ford and Peyton Falzone as Penn State’s current class.
