Newly minted head coach Matt Campbell recently arrived in Happy Valley, and has been working on putting a staff together since finalizing his deal to helm the Penn State program.
It now looks as though his offensive line coach Ryan Clanton will be joining him.
I’ve heard Clanton will go to Penn State. https://t.co/TyL08K0Hv2

Clanton just finished his third year at Iowa State and added run game coordinator to his title for the 2024 season. He helped his group pave the way to a record-setting rushing season in 2024 as the Cyclones went 11-3 and made the Big 12 championship game.
Under his guidance, the run game produced 2,094 yards and 174.5 yards per game on the ground during the 2025 season. The offensive line also allowed only 21 sacks as a unit for Iowa State.
He helped two offensive linemen reach the NFL including offensive tackle Jalen Travis in the fourth round of the 2025. Travis was the first Iowa State offensive linemen drafted since 2013. Prior to Iowa State, Clanton was at Northern Iowa where he started as an offensive line coach in 2018 and was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2022.
Clanton will be tasked with improving an offensive line group at Penn State that struggled at times this season and regressed from last year.
He would seemingly be taking over for Phil Trautwein, who has been with the program since 2020 and produced seven linemen selected in the NFL Draft.
As a player, Clanton played three years at the University of Oregon playing in the 2011 National Championship game and winning the 2012 Rose Bowl and 2013 Fiesta Bowl as a Duck.
