University Park, PA – It seemed Nebraska was going to muscle its way to the end zone with an opening score, but Penn State’s defense was up to the task.
Nebraska running back Emmitt Johnson, who is the Big Ten’s leading rusher, trotted off for a 52-yard gain that set the Cornhuskers up at the Penn State 11-yard line.
The Nittany Lions defended their goal, not allowing the Cornhuskers to reach a first down at the one-yard line stopping Johnson three straight times.
Johnson was called upon for a fourth time, as EDGE Dani Dennis-Sutton crashed the Cornhusker offensive line, allowing defensive tackle Zane Durant to shoot the gap and stop Johnson short.
Penn State was faced with a long field and would have their longest drive of the season going 98 yards for the opening score.
Highlighted on the drive was an explosive pass play from Ethan Grunkemeyer to freshman wide receiver Koby Howard for 31 yards, then senior running back Kaytron Allen went off for a 50 yard run that set up Grunkemeyer connecting with tight end Andrew Rappleyea in the flat for his first touchdown of this season.
