JJ Wiebusch Named Big Ten Second Star of the Week

Forward JJ Wiebusch has record setting night for Penn State - Penn State Athletics

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Sophomore forward JJ Wiebusch has been named the Big Ten Hockey Second Star of the Week for his performance in No. 3 Penn State’s series sweep at Ohio State to open conference play.

This marks Wiebusch’s second Big Ten weekly honor of the season after earning First Star of the Week recognition on October 14.

It also extends Penn State’s streak to five consecutive weeks with a player featured among the conference’s three stars. Charlie Cerrato (October 7) and Matt DiMarsico (October 21) each earned First Star honors, while freshman Gavin McKenna was named Third Star last week.

Wiebusch scored two power-play goals in the series against Ohio State and recorded his sixth multi-point game of the season. He has registered at least one point in nine of 10 games this year, scoring in eight, including five straight, which ties his career-long goal streak set last season.

Wiebusch currently leads the nation with 11 goals and is tied with Cerrato for the national lead in points (18). His six power-play goals rank just two shy of Aiden Fink’s single-season program record of eight, set in each of the past two seasons.

No. 3 Penn State returns to action this weekend with a two-game series at No. 1 Michigan State at Munn Ice Arena, beginning Friday.
