Penn State men’s hockey is heading to Pittsburgh for a February showdown against an in-state rival on an NHL stage.
Robert Morris announced that the Colonials will host Penn State at PPG Paints Arena, home of the Pittsburgh Penguins, on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2027, at 2 PM.
The matchup brings together two of Pennsylvania’s Division I hockey programs for a special event in the Steel City, providing an opportunity to showcase college hockey in one of the state’s premier venues.
For Robert Morris, the game marks its first appearance at PPG Paints Arena since January 2020.
“We’re thrilled to bring our men’s hockey program back to PPG Paints Arena,” Robert Morris Vice President and Director of Athletics Dr. Ron Moses said.
“Hosting Penn State in such an outstanding venue provides an exciting opportunity to bring together our alumni, students, fans, and the greater Pittsburgh community. We’re looking forward to creating a memorable experience for everyone who supports RMU hockey.”
The game also gives Penn State an opportunity to play in front of its sizable alumni base in western Pennsylvania, bringing the Nittany Lions closer to supporters who might not regularly make the trip to Pegula Ice Arena in University Park.
With Pittsburgh’s established hockey tradition and the Penguins’ home serving as the backdrop, the February matchup offers both programs an opportunity to generate additional exposure for college hockey.
The contest will also provide a rare NHL-arena setting for an in-state matchup between the Nittany Lions and Colonials.
