UNIVERSITY PARK— Before every Penn State home game, coach James Franklin is introduced at the end of pregame player introductions.
Following losses to Oregon and UCLA, Franklin was booed by a portion of the Beaver Stadium faithful.
This isn’t unprecedented.
At the first home game after Penn State’s loss to Ohio State last season, a similar event transpired.
A portion of fans also booed Franklin before the team’s 2022 game against Minnesota, a reaction to the team’s 41-17 loss at Michigan the week before.
Franklin was asked about a potentially hostile atmosphere after Wednesday’s practice.
“We try to control the things that we can control. We’ve had this in the past. I obviously don’t want it. Nobody wants it. I want the players to have a great experience. I want the coaches to have a great experience. I want the fans to feel good and be excited and I know that we impact their mood for the week and the year. So I get it. Do I like it? Am I happy about it? No. But I get it. This is a place that has high expectations and high standards. I get it. But again, it’s outside of our control, and we try to pour all our energy in the things that we can control.”
Penn State-Northwestern will begin at roughly 3:35.
