Former Penn State and current Missouri quarterback Beau Pribula was carted off the field in Saturday’s game at Vanderbilt.
In the third quarter, Pribula was attempting to run into the end zone on fourth and goal when he suffered an apparent left leg injury on the tackle.
Soon, he was carted off the field with an air cast on his leg.
The most important thing is Pribula’s health.
Additionally, this is a huge and negative development for Missouri that could affect the College Football Playoff race and even the Penn State coaching search. Missouri came into the Vandy game ranked No. 15 in the country and 6-1, and a win at No. 10 Vanderbilt would likely get Missouri back into playoff contention.
But if Pribula is out long term, it’s hard to see Missouri making it to the dance, especially considering it was already down a QB. Sam Horn, who Pribula competed with for the starting job over the offseason, suffered a long-term injury during the season’s first week.
Now, the guy in charge of Missouri is another Pennsylvania native who Penn State fans know real well— Matt Zollers.
A Royersford native, Zollers, a five-star, picked Missouri over Penn State, Georgia and others.
If Zollers is the man for the rest of this year, it could affect how hot Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz’s name is on the coaching market.
Drinkwitz has been linked to the Penn State job, and Nittany Sports Now confirmed that he was a candidate the day after James Franklin’s firing.
Pribula came into the Vanderbilt game with 1,617 yards passing, along with 11 touchdowns, seven interceptions and a 70% completion rate.
He’s also rushed for 210 yards and five touchdowns on 67 carries.
