Prugar’s 3-and-Out: The Penn State Defense Does it Again’

The Penn State defense once again did its thing in another lopsided, dominant 52-6 win over Villanova Saturday afternoon.

It’s exactly what was expected of the defense against an FCS opponent, but offensively, there was still a lot left to be desired from the starting group.

But a win is still a win Penn State is 3-0 heading into the bye week and then a date with Oregon in the White Out.

FOOTBALL IS LIFE

Tony Rojas had himself an impressive start to the football game for the Penn State defense. He recorded a sack on the first drive of the game for Villanova and another one on their second one.

Rojas has played some quality football through the first few weeks of the season and finished Saturday’s contest with five tackles and the aforementioned sacks.

He and Amare Campbell have combined to play some excellent football at the linebacker position. Campbell had a team-high seven tackles— including three tackles for loss— and a sack.

TWO-HEADED MONSTER

Kaytron Allen was the man for Penn State Saturday against Villanova.

Both Kaytron Allen and Nicholas Singleton found the end zone against the Wildcats. Singleton did so twice and Allen once, though, Allen rushed for 86 yards on 10 carries while Singleton rushed for 84 on 20 carries.

The workload has been split pretty down the middle, but it’s clear Allen should be the featured back. Getting both established was a point of emphasis early, but it’s Villanova and that should have been easy to accomplish for Penn State, and it was.

With that said, they certainly should enjoy the bye week and the split workload should have them fresh heading into the game against Oregon.

OFFENSIVE ‘WOES’

Penn State marched down the field and put up six points on their first drive of the game. From there, the starting offense struggled at times to get into a rhythm especially with Drew Allar.

Allar often missed receivers and had a hard time staying on the field in sustained drives. The offense has had a difficult time sustaining drives through three games this season against inferior opponents.

Allar also threw his first interception of the season and finished 16-for-29 for 209 yards and a touchdown.

It’s crazy to think that Penn State needs more out of an offense when they’ve won each game easily, but they need to find much more consistency as the Big Ten schedule begins.
