University Park, PA – Orange Bowl deja vu hit Happy Valley as quarterback Drew Allar throw a game-ending interception in double overtime to give No. 6 Oregon Ducks a 30-24 win.
Allar did not have his best performance completing only 14 of 25 passes for 137 yards passing and two touchdowns to go along with the interception.
The build for the matchup was between Oregon head coach Dan Lanning, whose last appearance against Penn State defense coordinator Jim Knowles ended Lanning’s undefeated season in the Rose Bowl.
Lanning brought his No. 6 Oregon team into the “White Out” where he faced Knowles defense for the third time in the last 12 games.
This time, Lanning and offensive coordinator Will Stein had different wrinkles for Knowles, being aggressive on fourth downs converting five of seven, including a eigth time in the first quarter that was nullified by a penalty forcing the Ducks to punt.
While Knowles defense bent through much of the game, it broke in the third quarter.
After Oregon drove to the Penn State nine-yard line, it appeared the Nittany Lions got a break when Oregon running back Noah Whittington fumbled and it was recovered by safety Zakee Wheatley who returned it to midfield.
The play went under review where it was ruled Whittington’s knee was down.
The Ducks would score when freshman Dierre Hill Jr. would score on an eight-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Dante Moore.
Hill had 91 yards from scrimmage (79 rushing and 12 receiving).
Lanning saw an opportunity early in the fourth quarter to put the Nittany Lions away on fourth down, where the Ducks faced a fourth and one from the Penn State nine-yard line.
The Ducks converted when another freshman Jordan Davison scored on a nine-yard touchdown to put Oregon up 17-3.
Penn State fans proceeded to chant “Fire Franklin” that resonated throughout a disappointed White Out crowd.
The Penn State offense could not get going , only had 109 total yards through the first three quarters..
With their backs against the walls, down 14, Penn State attempted a comeback bid with a four-play drive that took just under two minutes to go 75 yards that was capped by a 35-yard touchdown reception by wide receiver Devonte Ross.

The dejected crowd that were jeering were reinvigorated by Penn State’s ability to respond in their biggest spot in 2025.
After stopping Oregon, the Nittany Lions had their most consequential drive of the season and delivered on a Devonte Ross touchdown, his second of the game, to tie the game at 17, sending the game to overtime.
Penn State would get the ball first in overtime and senior running back Kaytron Allen punched it in to go up 24-17.
Oregon would respond in their first overtime when wide receiver Jamari Johnson scored on a two yard touchdown reception from Dante Moore.
On the ensuing play Moore connected with wide receiver Gary Bryant Jr. on a 25-yard touchdown.
EDGE Dani Dennis-Sutton would intercept Moore on the two-point conversion, setting up Allar’s fatal throw to down the Nittany Lions.
Penn State hopes to avoid a hangover when it travels next Saturday to the Rose Bowl to play UCLA.
