UNIVERSITY PARK– Fans who were waiting for the Penn State offense to break through didn’t quite get to see it in the first half against Oregon.
They wanted a statement and instead got a whimper.
Penn State scored just three points in the first 30 minutes, with Ryan Barker’s 49-yard field goal being the only offense.
Aside from that, it’s been subpar pretty much all the way around.
Drew Allar completed 6 of 12 passes for 45 yards.
Nick Singleton gained 10 yards on seven carries.
Kaytron Allen gained eight yards on three carries.
Perhaps most striking of all is that Oregon outgained Penn State 189-69.
The good news for Penn State is that Oregon hasn’t been lighting up the scoreboard, either. The Ducks had a chance to tie Penn State at three early in the second quarter, but Atticus Sappington– yes, that is a real person’s name– missed from 47 yards out. Sappington had another chance later in the quarter and this time, he connected from 42 yards to tie the game at 3.
Although the teams went into halftime tied, make no mistake, this time of performance can’t cut it for too long against a team as good as No. 6 Oregon.
