Snap Count Sunday: Who Saw The Most Action For Penn State Against Nevada?

It’s time for the first edition of “Snap Count Sunday,” a look at which Penn State football players took the most snaps each week.

Penn State and its fans expected a lot of players to get playing time Saturday against Nevada.

When you’re favored by 42.5 points, you expect the bench to be emptied, and when you win by 35 (it really wasn’t that close), that expectation becomes reality.

Ouch: Nevada Covers With Late Score Against Penn State

In total, Penn State played 31 players on offense and 36 on defense, meaning that 68 of 105 players saw action (not counting the ones on special teams).

Offensivley, Penn State OL coach Phil Trautwein hoped to have 10 linemen ready to start in the Big Ten by the end of training camp. Per Pro Football Focus, 12 played against Nevada Saturday, and 10 of those 12 played at least 22 snaps (this doesn’t include T.J. Shanahan, who did play but wasn’t listed in the snap count for some reason.)

Defensivley, a pair young players led the way with 34 snaps each. With Zion Tracy banged up, resdhirt freshman Kenny Woseley Jr. started at NICKEL. At strong safety, Franklin suprised a lot of people earlier in the week by announcing that Antoine Belgrave-Shorter would start at strong safety.
