University Park— The question coming into Penn State’s season opener against Nevada wasn’t whether Penn State would win, but how much it would win by.
Penn State came in favored by 42.5 points and looked like it would cover, leading 46-3 in the dying seconds.
But a Nevada touchdown pass with 25 second left made it 46-9, the ensuing two-point conversion made it 46-11.
So Penn State’s dream of covering the spread in every single game this season died before it really lived.
But the important thing is that Penn State win on the scoreboard, improving to 1-0 and extending its win streak against non-conference opponents at Beaver Stadium to 29.
PSU has never lost an OOC home game in the James Franklin era (2014-) and doesn’t figure to this season. Penn State’s next tow games are against Florida International and Villanova.
In both of those games, people will be more curious about the spread than the result.
