In 2024, Tyler Warren became the first tight end in program history to receive the John Mackey Award, awarded annually to the nation’s top tight end.
If Penn State is looking to have a repeat winner, senior Khalil Dinkins made the first step being named to the award’s annual preseason watch list.
Dinkins has appeared in 37 games at Penn State, making six career starts. He has tallied 23 receptions, 232 receiving, and five touchdowns in his career.
Last season, Dinkins had career highs in receptions, yards, and touchdowns.
Dinkins highlight from last season came against Wisconsin where his one-yard touchdown reception capped a 13-play 81 yard drive that put the Nittany Lions ahead for good.
The recognition hasn’t escaped Dinkins this off-season as he was named to Bruce Feldman of The Athletic’s annual College Football Freaks List.
Dinkins came in at No. 71.
Feldman wrote, “At 6-4, 255 pounds, Dinkins ran a 4.50 40 (a school record for Penn State tight ends) and hit 21.8 mph. He broad jumped 10-0, clocked 4.30 in the shuttle, bench pressed 405 pounds, power cleaned 355 and squatted 550.”
The son of former NFL tight end Darnell Dinkins, who played eight seasons with multiple teams, was a member of the New Orleans Saints Super Bowl XLIV team.
Penn State opens its 2025 season August 30 in Beaver Stadium against Nevada. The game will be televised by CBS.
