Penn State Women’s Basketball Tabbed As Team To Watch

With 100 days to go until the start of the 2025 women’s college basketball season, Penn State was identified as a team to keep your eyes on as to who could make a jump in this year’s national spotlight. Per ESPN, this squad is seen as a team that could make a dramatic jump in the Big Ten Conference rankings or perhaps even onto the NCAA tournament bubble.

Maggie Mendelson Joins Lady Lions for 2025-26 Campaign

With the additions of tranfers Maggie Mendelson (pictured above) and Kiyomi McMiller, Penn State has nowhere to go but up after finishing 1-17 in the Big Ten last year. Mendelson is a 6′-5″ senior, two-sport athlete who transferred to Happy Valley from Nebraska last year and was a member of the 2024 National Championship PSU volleyball team. Mendelson will now put her basketball skills to use for the Nittany Lions this upcoming season. The last time she played college basketball was for the Cornhuskers during her freshmen year. She averaged 2.0 ppg. and 2.2 rpg. over 22 games. Out of Fremont High School in North Ogden, Utah, Mendelson was the the no. #32 ranked basketball recruit in the country in 2022, per ESPN.

Kiyomi McMiller (pictured above) has transferred to Penn State from Rutgers. The 5′-8″ sophomore guard from Life Center Academy in Silver Spring, Maryland averaged an astounding 18.7 ppg., 4.7 rpg. and 3.0 apg. for the Scarlet Knights last year. At the conclusion of last season, McMiller earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honors and was also named Big Ten Freshman of the Week twice.

Mendelson and McMiller will definitely be welcomed additions to the PSU women’s program. Last year, their overall record was 10-19 with a conference record of 1-17.
