When the Beaver Stadium press box was torn down Jan. 4, items saved from the carnage became hot commodities for Penn State fans and collectors everywhere.
Fortunately, the university saved a multitude of items from the press box and west side of the stadium that was torn down.
Some of those items have started going up for auction such as the letters from the facade of the press box (PENN STATE), the Nittany Lion head, signs for concessions, the marker noting the drum major’s flip and much more,
They were all put up on auction through Lion Surplus’ eBay site and have fetched a pretty penny and then some.
All told through the first week of the auction, the letters that spelled PENN went for a combined $8,518.18 while the Nittany Lion head itself went for $5,400.
Sections of bleachers were sold at the annual apparel sale at Pegula Ice Arena while other sections have also been listed on eBay and sold for $200 a section.
If you didn’t get your hands on the Welcome to Beaver Stadium sign that sold for $4,650, fret not as there are plenty of other options to try and win.
We decided to ask a few of our NSN frequenters of Beaver Stadium what item they’d most like to have from the stadium:
Myself: I would enjoy some random signage from the press box as well as a row of bleacher seats. The signage is pretty unique and would have plenty of use in my future mancave.
For reference purposes and full disclosure, I have spent time bidding on items involved in the auction but to no avail. One was a Press Box Concession Room Policy sign that is currently at $542 as well as rest room signs that are $845 and counting.
Now for the rest of the panel:
Joe Smeltzer –ย The press box soda machine. It provided countless caffeine for many throughout its years and its unsure whether Pepsi was able to salvage the machines or not.
Kevin Quigley – The letter P. This letter itself went for $2,825. I have received no word from Kevin on whether he was the winning bidder or not.
Kyle Golik – Two things. The hot dog grille that thousands if not tens of thousands of hot dogs were rolled on this season. It’s more venerable and iconic than an Original Willy Dog Cart according to Kyle. He would also like the headsets Jack Ham and Steve Jones commonly use on their broadcasts. This is definitely a top item, though, Kyle will have to fight the All-Sports Museum for that one.
Andy Stine – Andy has two things he’d like as well. One being one of the coolers they store water in between the concession room and the writers room. He’d also like the stairs that lead from the press box to the ground level. As someone who has walked these stairs, he gets a massive kudos from me as they are the sole reason I prefer the elevator in any major stadium or arena.
New items are put up for bid daily at 10:00 a.m. and can be bid on for a week.
