Penn State wrestling is reportedly losing one of its members to the transfer portal.
Per a report by Pat Mineo of The Wrestling Room, Erik Gibson is hitting the portal after two seasons with Penn State.

This shouldnโt come as a surprise.
In a program that has lost guys such as Terrell Barraclough (finished fifth at nationals this year), Alex Facundo (finished 12th in 2023) and Zack Ryder (former top 10 recruit) to the portal, it was hard to see Gibson cracking the lineup.
Report: Penn State Wrestling Losing Zack Ryder to Transfer Portal
He redshirted his freshman season in 2023-24 but did wrestle four times in open tournaments, going 3-1. He didnโt compete in any matches this season for undisclosed reasons.
NOT THE FIRST GIBSON
Erik isnโt the first Gibson move on from Penn State. His brother, Mason, planned to begin his college career at PSU in the 2024-25 season but ended up transferring to Rutgers. Wrestling unattached, Mason Gibson went 10-2.
Both Gibsons initially committed to ย Penn State after standout high school careers. Erik finished third at states as a true freshman (138) and sixth as a sophomore (145). Mason Gibson was also a two-time All-American and additionally was a Super 32 champion.
Interestingly enough, the Gibsons each initially were committed to Cornell. But in November 2022, each announced that they were de-committing to go to the same school.
Maybe this is telling to where Erik might land.
RU, RAH-RAH?
So will Erik Gibson end up at Rutgers along with his brother? Nothing is set in stone yet but Rutgers is thought by some to be the favorite because, well, you could probably figure this one out.
Penn State will begin its next wrestling season in November.
