Although the dual meet started off with a stunner, Penn State still regrouped and defeated Ohio State easily, 27-13, on the road in Columbus on Friday night.
Luke Lilledahl was up 6-2 in the second period on Ohio State’s Brendan McCrone, but was caught in a cradle and was pinned at 3:58 to put the Buckeyes on the board.
The only other two Nittany Lions to lose were backups in Joe Sealey (157) and Cole Mirasola (285). Sealey was in for Tyler Kasak, who was placed in concussion protocol in Sunday’s match with Maryland. Mirasola replaced Greg Kerkvliet in the meet.
Beau Bartlett came up with perhaps PSU’s biggest win as he defeated 2024 national champion Jesse Mendez, 4-2, at 141 pounds. Bartlett lost to Mendez in both the Big Ten and NCAA finals last season, but Bartlett also beat Mendez in last year’s dual meet in State College.
Braeden Davis (133), Shayne Van Ness (149), and Levi Haines (174) also all won by decision.
Mitchell Mesenbrink (165), Carter Starocci (184), and Josh Barr (197) all picked up another technical fall in the meet.
The win put Penn State’s win streak at 69 consecutive dual meets.
The Nittany Lions (13-0) visit Illinois on Sunday.
