We now know who Penn State will be playing in the College Football Playoff.

PSU is seeded No. 6 and will be hosting No. 11 SMU at Beaver Stadium.

This will be the first time Penn State has made it to the College Football Playoff and the first time PSU has ever played at Beaver Stadium in December.

When the 12-team format went into affect this season, many figured Penn State— which finished in the top 12 in six of the previous eight seasons— would be one of the main teams to benefit from it. So far, they’ve been proven right.

But what about SMU?

Penn State woke up Sunday morning knowing it would be in the College Football Playoff. The question was, who would it play? SMU didn’t know if it would be in the field at all. Many figured SMU would be passed over for Alabama, which ended up finishing at No. 11 in the rankings but missed the playoff due to two teams ranked below it getting first-round byes.

SMU finished the regular season 11-1 and Clemson needed a walk-off 56-yard field goal to knock the Mustangs off in the ACC Championship Game.

WHITE OUT CONDITIONS?

There’s nothing like the Penn State White Out

We know Beaver Stadium will be rocking for Penn State-SMU.

The question is, will the game be played under White Out conditions?

This will depend on what time the game kicks off— which hasn’t been revealed yet— but the possibility is something that will excite Penn State fans.

The two teams haven’t met since 1978, when Penn State beat SMU 26-21.
