After a week in which Penn State didn’t play anybody, the team has moved down in the AP Poll.

Penn State had been No. 8 in the AP Poll but is now down to No. 10.

Others ahead of Penn State are Georgia, Texas, Ohio State, Alabama, Ole Miss and Oregon. Penn State is slated to take on Ohio State in Beaver Stadium Nov. 2 for the season’s most-anticipated PSU matchup. Elsewhere in the Big Ten, USC, who Penn State plays Oct. 12 in the Coliseum, is No. 12. Michigan, which hosts USC this Saturday at 3:30 on CBS but doesn’t play Penn State this season, is No. 17. Nebraska, which debuted in the rankings last week, is now No. 22. Nebraska also doesn’t play Penn State this season.

Among others receiving votes were Illinois (75), Iowa (17), Indiana (7), Michigan State (6) and Washington (2). Penn State hosts Illinois Sept. 28 and Washington (White Out game Nov. 9) but doesn’t play Iowa, Indiana or Michigan State.

Before Penn State can worry Illinois, Penn State has the daunting task of Kent State, who just lost 71-0 at Tennessee and lost to FCS St. Francis at home the week before.

In other rankings news,

ESPN’s FPI— which had Penn State at No. 5 after Week 1– dropped PSU to No. 7 after a closer-than-expected win over Bowling Green and dropped it two more spots after a bye week.

PSU is now No. 9 behind Texas, Alabama, Ohio State, Tennessee, Georgia, Ole Miss, Notre Dame and Miami. Penn State hosts Ohio State Nov. 2 in what’s by far the most anticipated game on PSU’s schedule.
