If the 2024 Penn State offensive is going to be productive this season, Tyler Warren is going to have to be a big reason for that.
The 6’6″, 256-pound senior tight end bypassed the NFL Draft to return to Penn State and hopes to improve upon his junior season in which he caught 34 passes for 422 yards and 7 touchdowns. Those numbers got him voted to the Big 10 3rd team, which was voted upon by the coaches.
With all that being said, it comes as no surprise that Warren was named this morning to the 2024 Mackey Award Preseason Watch List. The Mackey Award is present to the top tight end in college football.
Warren has gotten better every season and the former high school quarterback from junior has developed into a legitimate prospect for the 2025 NFL Draft.
NFL Scouts love his athleticism, which allows him to line up all over the field and in different formations. Warren has great hands, sharp route-running skills and the size to win 1-on-1 battles for the ball, as well as gain valuable yards after the catch. Aside from being a weapon in the passing game, Warren is a capable blocker in the running game.
After redshirting his true freshman season, Warren played both tight end and fullback as a redshirt freshman, catching 5 passes for 61 yards and 1 touchdown. Those numbers improved the following season to 10 receptions for 123 yards and 3 touchdowns. Last season was Warren’s breakout season as he started all 12 games and finished with 422 yards and 7 touchdowns. He was a true redzone weapon for quarterback Drew Allar and the Penn State offense.
Warren’s 11 career touchdown catches are tied for fourth all-time in Penn State football history.
