Some college football programs try and portray themselves as national programs when it comes to recruiting, but in reality, very few are, and Penn State is one of those elite few.
Not only are Penn State alumni spread out all over the country, James Franklin and his assistants have been able to go recruiting all over the United States in order to get top talent.
Yes, a majority of Penn State’s recruiting classes are comprised with players from Pennsylvania and neighboring states. However, they’ve been able to extend their brand by literally going anywhere in the country to land a commitment.
Just using their current Class of 2025 as an example, two of their highest ranked players are from difficult places to pull talent from.
*4-star cornerback Daryus Dixson from California. Dixson is a Top 100 rated recruit.
*4-star running back Alvin Henderson from Alabama. Henderson is rated as the No. 36 overall player in the country. Being able to pull a talent like this away from Alabama is a major recruiting win.
*3-star running back Kiandrea Barber from Arizona. Barber was Penn State’s first commitment in their Class of 2025.
It’s also important to remember that while they do recruit nationally, Penn State still prioritizes their home state and often times, are able to land the top talent. Five of their current 15 commitments for 2025 are from Pennsylvania.
In terms of a complete breakdown, over the last six years, Penn State has received commitments from 123 different players, here’s a look at the 23 different states/countries they’ve recruited them from.
