Mike Rhoades and the Penn State basketball program will be hosting a talented in-state point guard tomorrow on an unofficial visit.

Philadelphia (Pa.) William Penn Charter 2025-point guard Jake West is exceling right now on the AAU circuit and played well at the Pangos AA Camp and at DMV Live.

Playing well against other top talent and in front of college coaches automatically puts you on the radar of college programs, and that’s happening right now with West.

The 6-foot-2 combo guard had communication with the Penn State staff, who invited him to make the drive to State College tomorrow for an unofficial visit. Along with Penn State, West also talked with West Virginia who invited him to visit Morgantown next Wednesday.

The 3-star prospect currently holds offers from Buffalo, Drexel, Mississippi State, Lafayette, Northeastern, Penn and St. Francis (NY).

“Over the start of this AAU season, Penn State assistant coach Jimmy Martelli started talking to me a lot and checking in with me,” West tells Nittany Sports Now. “He came to my game this weekend at The Hun School on Saturday. We talked after the game and he just wanted me to come see campus, so I’m real excited.”

“I’m excited about this because I’m from kind of close to the area, so I’m super excited. Penn State plays in a super conference and Penn State is a great school in general.”

West might not be the biggest player but watching him play, he’s the pro-type point guard, that’s fearless on the court.

“The No.1 thing about me is that I’m a competitor,” said West. “Whether my team needs me to take a charge, dive on the court for a loose ball. I’ll do anything to make my team better and I’m always going to compete. I think what coaches like about me is that I always want to win and have a lot of passion for the game.

“…Growing up in Philly playing against some top guards, I’ve never ran from smoke, so I love to play against the best players and that’s definitely helped me become the player that I am today, no doubt. I want to play at the highest level that I can, and I believe that my game can play at the highest level. I’ve been going extra hard these past couple of months trying to just show people and prove myself to them. Wherever I go, I know it’s Gods journey and he’ll put me on the right path.”

West tells me that he has some friends that attend Penn State and that he’s very much looking forward to tomorrow.

“Receiving an offer from Penn State would definitely be an honor.”
