Another One: Penn State Gets 3rd EDGE Commit in 3 Days

Penn State football has now had a commit in each of the past five days.

Three of them have been EDGE rushers, with the most recent one being Jayden Woods, who announced his commitment late Wednesday afternoon.

Woods, a four-star from Mill Valley High School in Shawnee, Kansas, is the No. 18 EDGE in the country from his class, the No. 5 player in Kansas and the No. 215 player in the country per 247Sports’ composite rankings.

He took his official visit to Penn State the weekend of June 7 and also took ones to Wisconsin (May 31), Purdue (June 14) and Tennessee (June 21).

In a scouting report for 247 published last November, Gabe Brooks described Woods as a “good-sized standing edge player with the physical tools to put a hand on the ground, whether as a scheme-versatile puzzle piece or as a long-term projection to a more traditional D-line role.”

Plays with obvious strength at the point of attack,” Brooks wrote. “Puts hands to use and shows stack-and-shed ability vs. the run. Displays encouraging linear pursuit speed to close on the ball. Physical tackler who shows some quick uncoiling pop that also punishes lead blockers in the run game. Excellent multi-sport profile that includes Kansas state discus championship and wrestling prowess. Bit of a one-speed rusher who’s still developing his move set. Flashes an effective inside move. Segmented mover at times with some lower-half tightness when redirecting. Can improve dip-and-bend flexibility around the edge and present more of a speed threat on obvious passing downs. Projects as a high-major defender who may wind up more of an interior defensive lineman than a true edge. Thrives on functional strength and high-effort, energetic play style. Could become an impact starter with long-term NFL Draft upside.”
