Not the kind of transfer portal related news that Penn State wants to be hearing as they approach the end of spring practices.
Per Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports and 247 Sports, Penn State could be losing one of their top offensive weapons.
On Friday, Zenitz reported that Penn State WR KeAndre Lambert-Smith is strongly considering entering the transfer portal. The spring transfer portal will open Monday and will be open for the next 15 days.
Zenitz reports that Lambert-Smith has “been away from the team this week and is strongly considering entering the transfer portal.”
The senior from Norfolk, Virginia led Penn State in receiving last season with 53 catches for 673 yards (12.7 yards/catch) and four touchdowns. In 2022, he 24 passes for 389 yards and four touchdowns.
This is surprising news to some considering just last week, coach James Franklin had this to say about Lambert-Smith.
“I think (Lambert-Smith) had a good spring, he’s shown some real flashes this spring and I’m seeing them on a more consistent basis. We need him to have a big year and expect him to have a big year, and I’m seeing more consistency in the special plays and production.”
Lambert-Smith has turned in some tremendous individual performances over the past couple of seasons-
-2023 vs. West Virginia: 123 yards and 2 touchdowns.
-Rose Bowl vs. Utah: 3 catches for 124 yards.
-2023 game-winning 57-yard TD vs. Indiana with 1:46 left in game.
At this point, this is just a report and nothing official, however, if true, Lambert-Smith would be a significant loss.
