Penn State Star Switching Positions

One of Penn State football’s most prominent players is switching positions.

Abdul Carter spent the first two seasons of his college career at linebacker and wore the famous No. 11, which star LBs such as LaVar Arrington, Micah Parsons and NaVorro Bowman wore before him.

Per Penn State’s roster page, Carter still wears No. 11, but is no longer a linebacker.

Carter is now listed as a defensive end. This is a move some Penn State fans have wanted to see for a while. The 6-foot-3, 250-pounder has plenty of size and is known for his speed. Penn State’s also losing a lot on the edges. Chop Robinson and Adisa Isaac are both projected to be NFL Draft picks, perhaps as high as the first round. Although Penn State still has talent returning at that position, such as Zuriah Fisher, Jameial Lyons and Amin Vanover, it’d be hard for Penn State fans not to be excited about Carter teaming up with Dani-Dennis Sutton, who many feel will be an All-American in 2023

Carter produced for Penn State at linebacker. He was an All-Big Ten performer this past season, being named a first-teamer in the coaches poll and a second-teamer in the media. Carter finished his true freshman season in 2022 with the team lead in sacks (6.5), tackles for loss (10.5) and finished second in solo tackles (36). He was one of four finalists for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award.

Carter’s the most prominent Penn State player switching positions, but he isn’t the only one. Lamont Payne is switching from corner to safety, Mekhi Flowers from DB to WR and Tyrece Mills from safety to linebacker.
