PSU Wrestling: True Freshman Braeden Davis Beats Top 15 Opponent at 125

Penn State wrestling doesn’t have a lot of problems.

The 125-pound weight class has been one of them.

This past March, 125 was the only class where Penn State didn’t send a wrestler to the NCAA Championships.

It looks like true freshman Braeden Davis could have something to say about that this season. Davis came into Friday’s dual meet against Oregon State in Corvallis, Oregon, with an 8-0 overall record with a win in his dual meet debut against Hofstra Dec. 11.

He had the biggest test of his young college career Friday night against Oregon State’s Brandon Kaylor, who came in ranked No. 15 in the country. Davis passed that test with flying colors, winning an 11-6 decision.

Penn State might not have needed such a boost at 125 to three-peat as national champions. But it certainly doesn’t hurt to have one.
