Former Penn State Commit Plans to Enter Transfer Portal

A player once committed to Penn State has entered the transfer portal.

Yazeed Haynes committed to Penn State in June 2022 but was committed to Georgia by the end of July.

Now, he’s plans on entering the portal after one season at UGA.

Adam Friedman of Rivals was the first to report.

Haynes didn’t receive any playing time in his first season at Georgia. In fact, all his bio on the team site says is “enrolled at UGA in January and participated in spring drills.” Penn State had problems at receiver this season, with KeAndre Lambert-Smith being the only WR to eclipse 300 yards.

Haynes was a four-star recruit coming out of high school, with 247Sports ranking him the No. 5 overall player in Pennsylvania from the ‘23 Class.

He had initially been committed to Rutgers, which he announced in March 2022, but de-committed in May. He grew up a Penn State fan, being from the state and ending his high school career at North Penn after spending time at Neumann-Goretti and Germantown. After de-committing from Rutgers, Haynes got an offer from Penn State in early June.

Later that month, he took an official visit to Penn State and committed by the end of it.

Haynes was pleased to tell James Franklin and Penn State’s coaching staff the good news in person at a meeting room in the Hyatt Hotel in State College.

Believe it or not, they were excited.

“Coach Franklin was jumping up and down,” Haynes told Nittany Sports Now not long after his commitment. “He got everybody to come in there. They were all congratulating me. It was all smiles on everybody’s faces. It was just great.”

We’ll see if Penn State gets him out of the transfer portal.
