One of Penn State football’s Class of 2024 commits will be changing schools ahead of his senior season.
Xavier Gilliam, a three-star EDGE who previously played at Wilde Lake High School in Columbia, Maryland, is transferring to Quince Orchard, he tweeted early Sunday afternoon.

Gilliam will be staying in Maryland.
Quince Orchard is in Gaithersburg, which is roughly a half hour away from Columbia. At Quince Orchard, Gilliam will be teaming with another prominent ‘24, Jaylen Harvey. Harvey could be joining Gilliam, who committed in early June, in Penn State’s Class.
Harvey is a four-star who’s projected to commit to Penn State in all three of 247Sports’ Crystal Ball predictions. Penn State’s in Harvey’s top five along with Florida, Maryland, Tennessee and USC. He took his official visit to Penn State the same weekend as Gilliam (June 2-4).
Quince Orchard is also the alma mater of current Penn State star EDGE Chop Robinson. Robinson was a four-star in the ‘21 recruiting class that played his freshman season at Maryland before transferring to Penn State, where he became one of the teams best players last season.
Nittany Sports Now talked with Gilliam recently, and he’s relieved to put his recruitment behind him and focus on his senior year.
“One of the things that my dad was telling me is that some guys love football, and then some guys love the recruiting process,” Gilliam said. “Some guys love going on the visits and putting a jersey on, and that’s cool, but I’m really a big football guy. So, when I committed, it was just like a big relief. I don’t have to worry about all of these people texting me, calling me. Sometimes it can get overwhelming, not for me, but just in general. So I feel it really lifted a weight off my shoulders.”
