Penn State is looking to find its first edge rusher in the 2024 recruiting cycle and they may soon find that hole finally filled.
Class of 2024 four-star defensive end Obbina Onwuka, from Charles Herbert Flowers High School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, has closed his recruitment and will announce his choice on Friday, as he announced on his Twitter account Wednesday evening.
Thank you to all the coaches that have recruited me throughout this whole process , after a long talk with my family I’ve decided to shutdown my recruitment, I will be announcing my commitment June 9th, where is home?!?!

Penn State is in the running along with Boston College, Maryland, Memphis, USC, Virginia Tech, and WVU for the commitment of Onwuka (6-foot-2, 225 pounds), who is the No. 12 player in Maryland, the No. 20 edge-rusher, and the No. 349 player nationally, according to 247Sports composite rankings.
Onwuka has scheme versatility as he can be an outside linebacker in a 3-4 or a defensive end in a 4-3 defense. He has the closing speed to take down ball carriers and the strength to shed off would-be blockers. At 225 pounds, he will need to add about 15-20 pounds to his frame once he arrives on campus.
Although Penn State is on his top list of schools, West Virginia appears to be the favorite to land the commitment of Onwuka after he visited its campus last weekend. However, things can open up before early signing day, which can change things drastically.
