Ford played at Penn State from 2019-the first four games of the 2022 season.
After Penn State’s win over Northwestern Oct. 1 at Beaver Stadium, coach James Franklin revealed that Ford hard left the team to focus on academics.
Ford is perhaps best remembered for his role on Penn State’s 2019 team that went 11-2 and won the Cotton Bowl. Ford was part of Penn State’s “LawnBoyz” quartet that also featured Journey Brown, Noah Cain and Ricky Slade. Ford was the only one of those four that played was still at Penn State his senior season.
Ford stayed at Penn State largely because he loved the place and also due to a mindset his grandmother instilled in him: “Finish what you started.”
“It’s a great place to be here,” Ford told reporters via Zoom this past September. “I mean, it’s Penn State. You can’t get anywhere better than this. Family atmosphere, obviously. You go in the building every single day and you can treat every single man in there like he’s your father or your friend, and that’s what you like to have, especially for the four years going in.”
Ford was somebody his coach, James Franklin, is quite fond of.
“Devyn Ford is one of my favorites,” James Franklin said after Penn State’s 41-12 win over Auburn this past Saturday. “I shouldn’t have favorites.”
Now, Ford will be finishing his football career in 2023, using his last year of eligibility. He finished his Penn State career with 666 yards and six touchdowns on 140 carries (4.75 yards per carry) and also returned kicks.
