Kyle McClellan made 47 saves as Wisconsin played spoiler on Penn State’s senior night as they won 2-1 on Saturday night at the Pegula Night Arena. Wisconsin snapped a 21-game Big Ten road losing streak on Saturday.
Wisconsin went on the power play when Conner McMenamin got called for roughing but got failed to capitalize. Wisconsin scored first when B. C arson Ceulemans scored on a goal assisted by Carson Bantles and Brock Caufield. Penn State went on the power play but failed to capitalize. The action was uneventful, and Wisconsin and Penn State went back and forth struggling for the period.
Wisconsin led 1-0 at the end of the first period. Penn State outshot Wisconsin 18-11 but lost the battle 12-10. At the start of the second period Wisconsin was on its heels as Penn State controlled the action but it does not get the rubber into the net Penn State evened the score when McMenamin scored a goal that was assisted by Christian Berge and Kevin Wall. Peate State goaltender Laim Souliere made some amazing saves and had multiple odd-man rushes but they failed to capitalize. Penn State went on the power play when Jack Horbach was called for roughing that was crossed into the third period. There was a lot of chippy play in the second period on the ice as both teams played physically.
Penn State and Wisconsin were tied at 1 at the end of the second period. Penn State Penn State outshot Wisconsin 8-5 and won the faceoff battle 16-5 in the second period.
Penn State stated the third play on the aforementioned power play but Wisconsin killed the power play. Penn State was keeping the pace the way that they wanted until Mathieu De St. De Paul scored a goal Wisconsin assisted by Zach Uradhi. Right after the goal Wisconsin got called for a major penalty. but Penn State got a penalty with Christian Sarlo getting called for a penalty to offset the penalties. Wisconsin blocked a lot of Penn shots as Penn State continued to crash the net, however, it failed to capitalize.
The Big Ten Hockey Tournament will start on the weekend of March 3-5.
