AJ Maddox, a four-star Class of 2024 quarterback out of Oak Grove High School in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, has narrowed his school choice down to three and Penn State has made the cut. Maddox will be announcing his commitment Monday.
I would like to thank all of the schools who have recruited me through this process, but I am now down to three schools.👀@Hayesfawcett3 @MacCorleone74 @SWiltfong247 @ChadSimmons_ @adamgorney @BrianDohn247 @amaddox9595 pic.twitter.com/3wU7awI1N2

Penn State is in the running along with Alabama and Texas A&M for Maddox (6-foot-2, 175 pounds). Maddox is the No. 8player in Mississippi, the No 31 quarterback and the No. 430 player nationally according to 247 Sports’ Composite Rankings.
Maddox was going to visit Penn State last month. But that never materialized. 247 Sports Texas A&M Insider, Brian Perroni, projects Maddox to pick Texas A&M in his “crystal ball” prediction.
Maddox is a pro-style quarterback with a nice touch on his passes and a strong arm. He has mobility, but that’s not a central part of his game. Maddox has excellent field vision for his age. He can process his reads and get the ball to the open receiver. He also has a younger brother in rising 2025 prospect Andrew Maddox.
If AJ Maddox were to join Penn State’s ‘24 Class, he’d be the first out-of-state recruit to commit in the cycle. Four-star offensive lineman Cooper Cousins (McDowell High School) and four-star linebacker Anthony Speca (Pittsburgh Central Catholic), the first two commits in the 2024 recruiting cycle, are in-state recruits. At the quarterback position, Penn State has ’22 five-star Drew Allar set to become the starter in the 2023 season. Penn State also has Beau Pribula, a ’22 three-star and two-time Pennsylvania Player of the Year from Central York. From the ’23 Class, Penn State has Jaxon Smolik, a three-star from Dowling Catholic High School in Des Moines, Iowa, signed. Smolik is already enrolled at Penn State.
