PSU men’s basketball HC Micah Shrewsberry had a lot to say following the team’s 76-63 loss to Purdue Sunday at Philadelphia’s Palestra, about both the game and the officiating.
The second-year head coach gave Purdue credit, but also made it clear that he wasn’t happy with the way the game was officiated, and expressed displeasure with Big Ten refs in general.

Penn State and Purdue combined to shoot 10 free throws all night, despite plenty of physical play.
”I get frustrated, man,” Shrewsberry told reporters in his postgame presser. “I’m gonna fight for my guys. I am always gonna fight for my guys. If I gotta get a tech, I gotta get a tech. If I gotta get kicked out, I gotta get kicked out. I am going to fight for my guys. I gotta fight for this program to get some frickin’ respect.”
Shrewsberry also pointed out that, when Penn State played at Michigan this past Wednesday, a ref didn’t even know his name.
“Call me by my right name,” he said. “Don’t come here in the Palestra and treat me like I don’t know basketball, treat me like I can’t see the game, like I don’t understand the game.”
So Penn State fans, what do you think? Was PSU HC Shrewsberry right to rant about the officiating, or is it just sour grapes following two straight losses?
