After getting booed during pregame player introductions, Clifford went 23-for-31 with 295 yards, four touchdowns and an interception.
This is the second time the sixth-year senior has earned conference Player of the Week honors this season, and the first time he’s been the sole winner. Clifford received co-Player of the Week after Week 1, splitting it with Nebraska running back Anthony Grant.
Clifford felt he played one of his best games against Minnesota, and his head coach was pleased as well.
“I’m proud of Sean,” James Franklin said in his postgame press conference. “He’s a battler, he’s resilient and he’s tough. He played well. If you look around the country, there are a lot of programs that would be super excited and happy about Sean Clifford being the quarterback and what he was able to do against one of the better defenses in the country (Minnesota).”
Also against Minnesota, Clifford became the second Penn State QB ever to eclipse 9,000 yards passing, joining his predecessor, Trace McSorley. He also broke McSorley’s career completions record.
Clifford and Penn State look to keep it going this coming Saturday against Ohio State. Its a noon kick at Beaver Stadium.
