As training camp draws closer, Pro Football Focus put out a list of the top 50 players in the NFL, and two former Penn State players, Micah Parsons and Adrian Amos, made it.

Dallas Cowboys second-year linebacker Micah Parsons came in at No. 29, and Green Bay Packers safety Adrian Amos came in at 40.

The PFF50 didn’t use its usual grading system, adding in the Wins Above Replacement metric when evaluating its top NFL players.

Parsons, who during his rookie season was at times being compared to a young Lawrence Taylor, recorded 84 tackles, 13 sacks and three forced fumbles on his way to winning Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2021.

Despite only playing as an edge rusher when Demarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory were out of the lineup, Parsons recorded a 25.3% pass rush win rate which is the best among all pass-rushers.

It will be interesting to see how defensive coordinator Dan Quinn will utilize Parsons’s skills in year two.

Amos has been one of the NFL’s most consistent safeties since he came into the league in 2015. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the top all-around safety in the NFL. He had a career year in 2021 by recording 93 tackles (75 solo), eight pass breakups and two interceptions for a PFF grade of 74 in coverage and in run defense.

He has missed less than 10% of his tackle attempts in the past three seasons. Amos also could well have a few good years left as he is only 29 years old.
