Penn State’s season opener at Purdue, scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 1, will kick off at 8 p.m. on Fox, opening the Big Ten football season. This is no surprise because Thursday afternoon football is not a thing unless it’s Thanksgiving.
The home opener, scheduled for Week 2 against Ohio, will kick off at noon and be broadcast on ABC. As was announced yesterday, Penn State’s Week 3 visit to Auburn will kick off at 3:30 on CBS.
The next week, Penn State returns home to host Central Michigan. No time has been announced for that game yet but it will be broadcast on The Big Ten Network.
Penn State will begin October by returning to Big Ten play against Northwestern at Beaver Stadium. That game will be on the ESPN Network at a time to be determined.
Finally, the game time that will raise the most eyebrows is October 22 against Minnesota. It’s Penn State’s Homecoming weekend, which would make it seem likely that the game would kickoff at noon. Instead, this year’s “Governor’s Victory Bell” clash is scheduled for 7:30.
No times have been set yet for the rest of Penn State’s schedule, including the Oct. 9 game against Ohio State at Beaver Stadium. It’s been speculated that Fox will get that game and have it start at noon, prompting debate as to whether a “noon Whiteout” for Penn State’s most prominent home opponent of the season would work.
Now, fans are wondering if Minnesota will be the Whiteout opponent, and debate will surely ensue.
