Former West Virginia Defensive linemen Akheem Mesidor will be visiting Penn when he posted32State on Friday. Mesidor announced that he will be entering the transfer portal recently to seek “a better environment” and to feel safer on campus.
Mesidor is a 6-2, 272-pound defensive tackle out of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada was a second-team All-Big 12 and a true freshman All-American selection in 2020 when he posted 32 tackles and five sacks in the 2020 season.
In 2021, he followed up his freshman season by recording 38 tackles and 4.5 sacks, earning himself honorable mention honors in the Big 12.
Mesidor was a three-star recruit according to On3 consensus out of Clearwater High School in Florida. He was apart of the Gridiron Academy a training ground in Canada that produced current and former Nittany Lion players such as Christian Veilleux, Jonathan Sutherland and Jesse Luketa.
If Mesidor comes to Penn State, he will help a position that is in flux. PJ Mustipher is coming back from a significant leg injury, and Hakeem Beamon will be coming back from an undisclosed issue hat sidelined him for the 2021 season. Furthermore, they have unproven Devon Ellies and Coziah Izzard in their defensive tackle rotation.
Penn State has already added offensive linemen Hunter Nourzad and wide receiver Mitchel Tinsley from the transfer portal this offseason.
