Shawn Battle, a 2023 three-star athlete out of Neumann-Goretti High School in Philadelphia, Pa has named Penn State in his top five list of schools. Also included in Battle’s top five are Boston College, Cincinnati, Virginia, and Nebraska.
Battle is a 5-11, 175-pound cornerback that plays two sports and was on the Neumann-Goretti Saints basketball team that won the 4A state championship last week. Battle is expected to announce his commitment on June 4 in Philadelphia.
According to 247sports.com, Battle is the No. 11 player in Pennsylvania, the No. 46 cornerback nationally, and the No. 435 ranked recruit in the Class of 2023.
Battle has made a few visits to Penn State over the past year and built a relationship with head coach James Franklin and cornerbacks coach Terry Smith. He made a trip to campus last summer with eventual 2022 signees Ken Talley and Tyrese Mills, who both happen to be from Philadelphia.
Should Battle commit to Penn State, he will be the second defensive back from the Class of 2023 to join the Nittany Lions program. Four-star cornerback Lamont Payne out of Chartiers Valley in Bridgeville, PA is the lone defensive back that has committed to Penn State so far.
