In the latest edition of Pro Football Focus 2022 NFL Mock Draft, they have the New England Patriots selecting Penn State wide receiver Jahan Dotson with the 21st overall pick.
PFF’s Seth Galina believes that the Patriots are bereft of talent at the wide receiver position and need to find someone besides Jacoby Myers on the perimeter that can separate from defenders. He believes that he would be the deep threat that 2021 first-round draft pick Mac Jones needs to go along Nelson Aghoular, Kendrick Bourne and tight ends Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith.
Scouts also think that his short-area quickness can make him an elusive ball-carrier that can be a swiss army knife type of player that can be used on jet sweeps, or end-arounds. If Dotson happens to be selected by the Patriots, he would potentially be the most explosive weapon that they have had since Randy Moss.
Dotson is the fourth receiver to come off the board in this most recent mock draft. PFF has USC wideout Drake London going to the New York Jets at pick number 10. Next, they have Chris Olave out of Ohio State going to the Cleveland Browns at the 13th pick. Finally, they have Alabama’s Jameson Williams going to the Philadelphia Eagles with the 15th pick.
It will be interesting how opting out of last week’s Senior Bowl will affect his draft stock, but with the scouting combine and Penn State’s Pro Day coming up Dotson can make up some ground.
