James Franklin Confirms Anthony Poindexter Will Be Defensive Coordinator for Outback Bowl

As widely expected, Penn State co-defensive coordinator/safeties coach Anthony Poindexter will be the defensive coordinator for the New Year’s Day’s Outback Bowl against Arkansas, head coach James Franklin confirmed in his press conference Friday morning.

Last week, it appeared that Poindexter would leave Penn State to become the head coach at his alma mater, the University of Virginia. But Poindexter decided to stay at Penn State and now will be working with new defensive coordinator Manny Diaz starting in the 2022 season.

On New Year’s Day, however, Poindexter will be calling the shots defensively. His latest and full-time coordinator position was at the University of Connecticut, where he was the defensive coordinator from 2014-16.
