PSU in the polls: Lions land in top 20 of preseason AP poll

Penn State came in at No. 19 in The Associated Press preseason poll, one spot higher than it was ranked in the coaches poll.

Alabama is No. 1, followed by Oklahoma, Clemson, Ohio State and Georgia. See the entire poll here.

Penn State is the fifth-highest ranked team from the Big Ten, just like in the coaches poll. After Ohio State, Wisconsin is No. 12, Indiana No. 17 and Iowa No. 18.

The Lions open up at Wisconsin, so it will be a matchup between No. 12 and No. 19 in Madison. Penn State also plays the other three Big Ten teams ranked in the top 20.

Penn State’s week three opponent, Auburn, is No. 30, and Michigan is No. 32.

Last year, Penn State was ranked No. 7 in the preseason AP poll, then started the season 0-5. The Lions became the first top 10 preseason team ever to start 0-5.
