Despite finishing last season at 4-5, there are a lot of good vibes around the Penn State football program this year. The Nittany Lions have a wealth of talent on both sides of the ball, although they have key question marks, as well.
Many figured PSU would land somewhere in the top 20 of preseason polls, and they came in at the back end of that projection in the coaches poll. The Lions are ranked No. 20 and are the fifth-highest ranked team from the Big Ten.
The top five are:
1: Alabama
2: Clemson
3: Oklahoma
4: Ohio State
5: Georgia
Also from the Big Ten: Wisconsin is No. 15; Indiana is No. 17 and Iowa is No. 18.
Penn State will play Wisconsin in the opener, Indiana in week four and then Iowa in week five. The Lions then have Ohio State in week eight.
Additionally, Auburn came in at No. 29 overall, and PSU plays the Tigers in week three.
Michigan is No. 33. Penn State plays the Wolverines in week 10.
It’s this very difficult schedule that gives the Lions cause for concern this season. They are projected by Vegas with an over/under win total of 8.5.
