Former Penn State DE Shaka Toney Makes Washington’s 53-Man Roster

Photo by Penn State Athletics: Shaka Toney

Shaka Toney entered the Washington football training camp as a long shot to make the opening roster.

The percentage of seventh round picks that stick on the 53-man roster though out the NFL isn’t high. However, that didn’t stop Toney from working to achieve his goal and today he reportedly received the news that he beat those odds and will be a member of Ron Rivera’s defensive line in Washington.

The 6’2″, 238 pound defensive end from Penn State will start his NFL career backing up arguably the best defensive end duo in the league in Chase Young and Montez Sweat. The word out of Washington is that Toney impressed the coaches with his quickness off the edge along with being a bigger guy that can run and contribute in a lot of special team roles.
